Also known as the Classic Yellow blooms, sunflowers are one of the most unique flowers out there. However, most people think differently because of how common they are. To take things into a different perspective here are a few things you might not have known about these flowers that will change the way you think about them:

1.Sunflowers track the sun

How do they do this you might ask? The flowers themselves display a unique behavior known as heliotropism which means they will face east in the morning (where the sun rises) and follow the sun throughout the day. When seed production begins, the flower will start to get heavier so the flower stems will stiffen and eventually the flower will remain facing east.

2.Medicine

In different parts of the world it is said that sunflower leaves can be turned into medicine (an infusion) that can help treat chest pains, cough, and kidney inflammation. It can be made in a verity of ways; one of the main kinds is soaking the pedals in hot water. A great number of Native American tribes also agreed with the plant's curing properties. This works because the Vitamin E and selenium in the flower are strong antioxidants that are thought to protect the body from numerous diseases.
