Making Memories Last

The first way you can preserve your flowers is to press them. This is a technique that allows you to flatten out the flowers so that you can use them in a number of ways. The easiest way to press flowers is to put them between the pages of a heavy book. Any chance you still have Yellow Pages sitting on your shelf collecting dust? Well, now you have the chance to use them! Line the pages with parchment paper and place the flowers inside. make sure to situate the flower so that the petals are flat and not folded over. Leave the flowers undisturbed for seven to ten days. You now have elegant little flowers to do with whatever you please! Here are some ways you can use them:

  • Make flower embellished soap
  • Sprinkle some into your bath.

The second way to dry out flowers is to hang them upside down. This technique allows you the ability to dry the entire flower, stem and all. In this way you have the full flower. To dry out the flowers, simply rubberband the stems together and hang upside down in a dark, dry place such as an attic or unused closet. Leave the flowers for two to three weeks until completely dry. Here are some ways you can use these:

  • Use them in place or amidst a bow for gift wrapping
  • Make some potpourri Use them as Wall decorations
  • Create floral centerpieces with them
  • Make flower embellished candles.
